My name is Ate Hoekstra (The Netherlands, 1981). I work as a correspondent in Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam and Laos. I’m based in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia.
Because most of my work is published in The Netherlands and Belgium, most of the information on this website is in Dutch. But I’m writing in English as well. I had stories published at BBC, Deutsche Welle, International Justice Tribune, UCANews, The Telegraph and other media.
Here are a few examples of my work:
BBC – The US veterans going back to live in Vietnam
Deutsche Welle – How Buddhist monks are battling deforestation in Cambodia
International Justice Tribune – Khmer Rouge lawyer: “I’m still here because of the bigger story”
Asean Forum – Providing Yangon’s heritage with a new future
